Did you ever want to know why an elephant has a long nose? Or why the camel has a hump?

Well, here are a collection of six cartoons to tell you why animals look like they do. The cartoons were drawn by a cartoonist from the UK, Sheila Graber, based on the Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling.

The Elephant’s Child

How the Leopard Got his Spots

How the Whale Got his Throat

How the Rhino Got his Skin

Old Man Kangaroo

A scary 2008

6 11 2008

Jack

We are really back at school, first post after the summer holidays and we are all very busy at school! I hope your tests went well and you are all enjoying your success ;p.

I took time out recently to celebrate Halloween with my friends.

I went to Ocean Park, again, this year and to Disneyland as well! When I think of Halloween, I do not usually think about Halloween. But I was very surprised to see a great Halloween parade at the theme park. I rode on Space Mountain and went into two of the ghost houses there. The ghost houses were like the ones at Ocean Park, but there did not seem to be so many people. At Ocean Park I had to queue up for over four hours just to get into two ghost houses! They weren’t very scary though.

And here’s another “trick or treat” for you a scary story recorded by students from P5 & P6:

Poem of the Day

30 04 2008

water

Here’s a poem:

The Wet Stuff

Sometimes it’s blue,

Sometimes it’s green.

But most of the time

No colour can be seen.

Sometimes it’s square,

Sometimes it’s round.

Sometimes there’s no

Shape to be found.

Sometimes it’s cold,

Sometimes it’s hot.

So be careful if it’s

Boiling in the pot.

Sometimes it’s soft,

Sometimes it’s hard.

But only in a cold

Drink in my yard.

It’s always wet

And never dry.

So what is this stuff

We feel when we cry?

A Trip

18 04 2008

Last week, I went on a trip to somewhere in China. I was there for two days. I saw a lot of old buildings and museums. I went to an art gallery to see some paintings and photographs, they were very beautiful.

I ate pork dumplings and a lot more delicious food. I drank a lovely cup of tea, jasmine flower, but it was very expensive.

I hope I can go back to this city. There are a lot of beautiful old streets and interesting people to talk to and things to see. The food in this city is delicious as well.

Do you know which city I visited?

Tell me about a place you have visited before and what you did there.

Happy New Year, this time it’s Happy Chinese New Year!

Let’s dance!

Where did lion dances come from? Can anyone tell me?

What will you do this Chinese New Year Holiday?

I will stay in Hong Kong this holiday and celebrate with my friends. After coming to Hong Kong, I feel very lucky to have two New Years now every year. I will try to have some turnip cake and New Year cake. I don’t know if I’ll try shark’s fin soup! (What happens to the rest of the shark?)

Do you send New Year cards in Hong Kong? Do you give presents? What will you do this holiday? Tell me all about it! What do you think about Chinese New Year?

How does it make you feel?

Happy New Year Everyone!

7 01 2008

Happy New Year to everyone in Kei Wa.

Do you have a New Year message or wish to tell everyone?

Have you made a New Year’s Resolution? (a New Year’s Resolution is a promise to do something special in the New Year, for example; don’t eat chocolate, eat healthy food, no McDonalds…)

My New Year’s Resolution is to eat less chocolate.

Have a great, fortune filled New Year with the best of health!
